Police in Mechelen (Antwerp Province) have collared a bike thief after a tip-off from a woman who saw her own stolen bike for sale online. The woman made an appointment with the seller with the police going along with her. During a search of the seller’s house, a second stolen bike was also identified.

Earlier this week police in the Mechelen area received a report from a woman who had seen her own stolen bike offered for sale online. The bike had been stolen in the city in early February.

The woman immediately made an appointment with the seller and the police tagged along. Checks revealed that the vehicle was indeed her own stolen bike.

After a search of the premises, police found a second stolen bike. It had been stolen on the same day! Both owners were reunited with their bikes, while the 24-year-old bike thief, a man from Mechelen, was invited to accompany the officers to the police station for questioning.
